This article contains a software link to LaserWriter 8500 PPD version 1.2.

Description:

The LaserWriter 8500 PPD v1.2 is an updated PostScript Printer Description (PPD) file designed for use with the LaserWriter 8500 printer. The LaserWriter 8 driver uses the PPD file to determine the characteristics of your printer and make various printing options available to you when you print.

Important: You can only use the LaserWriter 8500 PPD v1.2 for printing on a LaserWriter 8500 printer using the LaserWriter 8 driver. All users who want to use the PPD's new features must install the PPD.

The LaserWriter 8500 PPD v1.2 offers three new features: new multipurpose tray paper sizes, improved support for 13" x 18" paper, and support for adjusting scan-line direction magnification.

New features of the LaserWriter 8500 PPD v1.2

The LaserWriter 8500 PPD v1.2 offers three new features:

  1. New multipurpose tray paper sizes

The PPD provides support for three additional paper sizes:

  • Tabloid Extra: 12" x 18" (30.48 cm x 45.72 cm)

  • A3 Extra: 12.67" x 17.52" (32.17 cm x 44.49 cm)

  • Large Format: 12" X 19.17" (30.48 cm x 48.68 cm)

Supported paper sizes appear in the Page Setup dialog box.

  1. Improved support for 13" x 18" paper

The PPD correctly sets the printable area for 13" x 18" paper fed from the optional A3 Universal Cassette.

  1. Support for adjusting scan-line direction magnification

The PPD provides a new Device Scaling Adjust pop-up menu in the Imaging Options section of the Print dialog box. This menu lets you adjust the length of the printed line in the scan-line direction (perpendicular to the paper-feed direction). You may need to adjust this measurement to compensate for variations between individual LaserWriter 8500 printers. (On some printers, the variation can contribute to a line being printed noticeably shorter than expected.)

The Device Scaling Adjust pop-up menu provides eight levels of magnification: None, 0.5%, 0.62%, 0.73%, 0.85%, 0.96%, 1.08%, and 1.19%. Because the adjustment made is very fine, as many as four different levels can give accurate scan-line direction line lengths. Therefore, once you get acceptable results, you do not have to try another level.

Note

: Once you have selected a magnification level, click Save Settings to use this setting every time you print.
