iPhone: Compatibility message appears when connected to a 'Made for iPhone' accessory

When you connect an iPhone into an accessory with the "Made for iPhone" label, the message "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone" may appear.

If you get this message when you are using a "Made for iPhone" accessory, make sure of the following:

  • Make sure the packaging for the product says "Made for iPhone" and not "Made for iPod".

    For more information about iPhone accessories and the difference between "Made for iPhone" and "Made for iPod' accessories click here.

  • The iPhone dock connector is free of any debris.
  • The "Made for iPhone" accessory's connector is free of debris.
  • The iPhone is securely connected to the accessory—that is, it is not sitting crookedly within an iPhone dock and making only partial connection.
