Apple TV (1st generation): White screen during playback of purchased or rented video

When attempting to watch a video purchased or rented from the iTunes Store using your Apple TV (1st generation), you may see only a white screen on your TV.

Update to the latest Apple TV (1st generation) software. If you've already installed the latest software, try the following steps.

  1. With your television still on, restart the Apple TV (1st generation) by disconnecting the power cable from the back of it.
  2. Wait thirty seconds, then reconnect the power cable to the Apple TV (1st generation).

Note: If you have any components connected to your Apple TV (1st generation) via HDMI, such as an audio receiver and or a TV, make sure that they are turned on while restarting the Apple TV (1st generation).
