Pages for iOS: Changes when importing a Pages for Mac document

Learn what to expect when using an iOS device to open a Pages document created on your Mac.

This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

In most cases, you will see no difference when you import a document to Pages for iOS from Pages for Mac. If your document uses features that are not available in Pages for iOS, you will be prompted whether you would like to open the original version or to create a copy, and changes made to the content or document layout are listed for your review.

Below is a list of the changes that are made to Pages for Mac documents that are imported and converted to the Pages for iOS optimized file format:

  • Documents using page layout are converted to word processing with text wrap. Linked text boxes are separated, retaining text, styles, and placement.
  • Changes tracked in an imported document are automatically accepted, except changes to body text which continue to be tracked. Comments are not imported.
  • All links other than web links are removed.
