iPhoto '09: Faces not detecting all images of a person in your library?

With Faces, after you've named a person whose photos appear in your library, iPhoto continues to use face detection and recognition to find matching faces, including those in newly imported photos. The resulting matched faces will show up as recommendations under the person's face tile in Faces.

Note: If you do not see any suggestions, click the disclosure arrow on the far left of the dividing line. If you don’t see the dividing line, scroll down until it appears and then click the arrow.

You can confirm or reject each of the suggested images by selecting the Confirm Name icon in the tool bar and then clicking on the suggested image to confirm it. You can click twice on the photo to reject it as a possible match or drag images above the dividing line to confirm matches.

The more images you confirm, the more precise iPhoto '09 becomes in its ability to match images of that particular person. However, if Faces does not suggest an image of a named person that you know is in your library:

  1. Select that specific image or another image of that person which has not been identified in Faces yet.
  2. Identify the person's face the same way you identified your original face, by selecting the Name icon in the toolbar.

Note: Only faces that have been automatically detected in your photo library will help iPhoto match faces. Manually identified faces will not aid iPhoto's face-matching ability.
  3. Select Faces, double-click the person's face tile, and then continue to confirm or reject newly matched images.
