- The highest quality scans are made directly from an original negative or slide. However, if you are scanning a printed photo, larger prints will yield better quality.
- Check your scanner's manual for the highest optical resolution and avoid scanning at a higher resolution. The majority of desktop scanners offer higher resolutions by creating additional pixels, known as interpolation. This setting doesn't produce optimal results, just bigger file sizes. For the best results, use only optical resolution settings.
- Be sure to review the scanned image at 100% magnification or greater. Look for any defects such as dust, scratches, etc. Any flaws will be difficult to see with less magnification, but will show up in your photo product.
