Redeeming iTunes Gift Cards and content codes

Follow these steps to redeem your iTunes Gift Card or content code.

You can redeem iTunes Store Gift Cards and content codes in the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store.

If you already have an Apple ID that you use with the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store, you can redeem your gift card without using a credit card. If you don’t have an account, you can create an account without a credit card or other payment method.

Redeem your code

Select where you want to redeem your code:

Redeem your code on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Tap iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store on your device.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the Featured section and tap Redeem. You will need to sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Tap "You can also enter your code manually."
    In some countries, you can redeem gift cards using your built-in camera.
  4. Enter your gift or content code and tap Redeem. If you have an iTunes Gift Card, use the 16-digit code on the back of the card that begins with X.
  5. After you redeem a gift card code, your iTunes account balance will update. You might need to sign out and back in for your balance to appear.

    If you redeemed a content code, your content will begin downloading.

Redeem your code on iTunes for Mac or PC, the Mac App Store, or the iBooks Store

  1. Depending on where you want to redeem your code, open:
    • iTunes, then the iTunes Store. (Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.)
    • The Mac App Store.
    • iBooks, then the iBooks Store.
  2. Click Store > Sign In to sign in using your Apple IDLearn how to turn on menus in Windows 7 and 8.
  3. Under the Quick Links section on the right-hand side, click Redeem.
  4. Enter your gift or content code, then press Return.
    If you have an iTunes Gift Card, use the 16-digit code on the back of the card that begins with X. In some countries, you can redeem gift cards using your built-in camera.
  5. After you redeem a gift card code, your iTunes account balance will update. You might need to sign out and back in for your balance to appear.

    If you redeemed a content code, your content, app, or book will begin downloading.

  • You might not be able to use your credit if you see a message that your credit is temporarily unavailable. You can try again later.
  • You can use store credit to purchase items until the credit is gone. See how much credit you have left.
  • Your iTunes account can have gift certificates, prepaid cards, allowance credits, and free song credits at the same time. Learn how your purchases are billed
  • You need a credit card to purchase an iTunes Gift online.
  • Your credit applies only to your account. If you use Family Sharing, other family members can't make purchases with your credit.
