Xsan, Lion Server: Use case sensitive volumes for StorNext and pre-Lion clients

With Lion Server, Xsan adds case insensitivity. New volumes are case insensitive by default. You can set a volume to be case sensitive or insensitive by changing the volume settings in XsanAdmin.

Clients that don't advertise support for case-insensitivity will not be able to use case-insensitive volumes. This includes Xsan 2.x clients using Mac OS X v10.6 or earlier, as well as current StorNext clients.

To set whether a volume is case sensitive or insensitive:

  1. In XsanAdmin, select the volume in the Volumes pane.

  2. Click the gear icon in the lower right-hand corner.

  3. Select Edit Volume Settings.

  4. Check or uncheck "Case Insensitivity" as appropriate.

  5. Click OK.

Note: Clicking OK will restart the volume, even if no settings were changed. Changing this setting does not require the volume to be reinitialized; data is preserved.
